Players Player Review

Players Player is one of the biggest nights of the year in the PAOCBC social calendar.

For the uninitiated - after each game for PAC we vote for the 2 players in your team who were most impressive (2 votes / 1 vote) It can be the MVP, who scored the most or who influenced the game in other ways. Its up to the individual. Each round these votes are tallied and turned into a 3-2-1 vote for the round.

On Players Player night (after the last Saturday minor round game) we gather and read out the votes, drink beer and usually give Palky shit for getting upset when he does not poll well.

Palky this year you outpolled me - I only played 3 games but you managed to collect a couple of votes. Damn you!!

Its not really about who wins, its about the club and the collection of varying personalities that make it what it is ... and it is a wonderful club that is really building to become a force on the local basketball landscape. We have 7 mens teams and 1 womens team and 2013 might be our most successful.

1st & 3rd in A Grade
1st in B Grade
3rd and 4th in C Grade
1st & 5th in D Grade
3rd in Womens A grade

But this post is about Players Player which happened last night @ Seven Stars ... this year with Palk away in Europe the MCing was taken over by Lachy & Orks. Whilst not as witty nor possessing the encyclopaedic knowledge of each rounds games the young lads provided a different edgier and more expletive laden atmosphere - and in its own way was just as funny.

Congratulations to the winners ...

Gs - Reid - newcomer to the club who's superior hustle was rewarded with a stack of votes. Should rise a couple of grades next year and is a great young lad to boot

Fs - Brad - my favorite winner of the night, Brad has had some patella tendon issues over the last few years which had slowed him down. Being an expert on the subject I remember having a good chat to him preseason year before last and obviously those words stuck as he mentioned it in his acceptance speech. Brad underwent some pretty experimental (Kobe like) stem cell injection therapy and returned this season like a new player. Led the Fs to the clubs first undefeated season and looks set to also jump a few grades next year. Congrats mate

Es - Moorfoot - can you win Players Player whilst shooting sub 30% from the FT line, Yes. Josh's hustle, rebounding, biceps and wrecking ball  game was appreciated by his peers as he narrowly pipped B-Rad for the award. One of my best mates I'm proud of the impact he's had on the club in a short amount of time.

Ds - Jono - an emerging do it all point forward Jono led the experimental Ds side in scoring and really came on towards the end of the season. Huge potential as a future A grade player for the club.

Cs - Nathan "G" - G Man has put in a monster season scoring the ball at an unbelievable clip. The last 6 weeks averaging perhaps in the mid 20s and leading the Cs to the minor premiership. 1st year player and another best mate Thommo also had a cracker season. But lads a title is required by this veteran team. Make it happen

Bs - Mick Hill - a most deserving winner, dropped to the Bs to help develop his leadership and PG skills Mick has grown into the role and has been the driving force in taking our 2's to 3rd in A grade, a remarkable achievement. An all PAC final would be amazing, from there anything can happen.

As - Jack Harford - he's won a lot of these and deservedly so - all class and without any weaknesses - I miss playing with this bloke as he made the game simple - I think we were a pretty devastating & complementary 2 headed PG as we shared 3 straight titles as the starting backcourt (4 in total) for a very dominant A's squad. Go get another one Captain!!

Another great night had by all - I did well tipping 6 of the 7 winners and won the cash. Plenty of Jug-O-Naughts were drunk and good basketball related banter was had. Massive shoutout to the RoadTrain who mentioned his appreciation of the OldRedTiger blog - I do it for personal reasons but its great to hear others read it and get something out of it - so mate many thanks - Purge

Looking forward to the Finals starting this Saturday
